I’m a middle-aged bloke who wonders where the world is going. The solutions to many of the world’s problems seem so obvious. We fail due to lack of political will, intransigence, apathy, vengefulness, hatred and greed. Governments are unaccountable. We may live in countries that purport to be democracies, but the net effect is that the status quo is preserved. I am not given the option to vote for peace. So wars are waged in my name, using my money, against people with whom I have no argument. The little people always pay. Blessed are the meek, for they shall get fucked over.
When asked what he thought of western civilisation, M. K. Gandhi said he thought it would be a good idea. As far as I am aware, (I’m pleased to say) no-one has ever achieved total genocide. Eventually, you have to put down your weapons and talk to your enemies, whoever they are. So shall we do it now, or wait ’til we’ve had a bit of mutual carnage first? It’s a no-brainer!
The leaders of the world tell us they will never speak to terrorists, which is just another way of saying that the killing will continue. Many of the world’s leaders (even the most respected ones) used to be (considered) terrorists. Very few folk kill for the sake of killing: they are driven by grievances, real or otherwise. You may manage to catch or kill a few, but you merely inflame the next generation. Violence will never cure violence.

  1. Just one minor thing: As an Indian, I always catch this error by people in the West. It’s GAndHi, NOT GHanDi.

  2. Beautifully expressed! My sentiments exactly.

I’m afraid that’s all I can do for you. 🙂

Bravo! At least you and I will not kill each other. You’ve just joined the little band of the few who do not want me dead. 🙂

I will be pleased to read your thoughts, even if you don't agree.
